I got a text on my phone. The text message said:

 

"The jury has reached a verdict."

 

My heart skipped a beat, it had only been 20 minutes! After four days of testimony, how could the jury review the evidence and testimony that quickly? How could the jury have reached a Not Guilty in twenty minutes. 

 

I kept my head up while the foreman delivered the verdict to the jury ... 

 

Five days of barely any sleep was catching up with me, and the sounds from the courtroom were becoming more and more distant as my mind raced and searched my memory for what I did wrong. 

 

Then I heard a gasp, I looked at the judge to interpret what inaudible phrase the foreman of the jury had just muttered. But I didn't need him to interpret anything. 

 

My client was swinging from my neck in celebration. The verdict was, "Not Guilty." She was repeating the phrase over and over again.

More than a decade has gone by since that memorable day. It seems like I blinked. And the I woke up and realized I had been practicing law for more than a decade.
